The marketing department has convinced you that your company needs a blog. After the long, grueling design process, you finally have a blog on your website.
The first few months were easy. You had plenty of topics to write about. The blog posts were well received and you started to see positive results.
But now, six months or even a year later you are struggling to find topics for your weekly blog post. You find yourself hastily publishing content that is not appealing to you or, most importantly, to your customers.
How to Find Topics for Your Business Blog
Start with a buyer persona
First, you must identify your ideal customer(s). You no doubt have a good idea of who your customers are. But can you really visualize them? Are they male or female? Married or single? Do they have children or are they retired? Do they own a home or live in an apartment? What is their income level?
Once you know who your customer is, then you can get a pretty good idea of what they want. Create a set of buyer persona profiles. That will make it easier to craft your message and find topics that will interest them.
Create an Editorial Calendar
Using an editorial calendar is another way to find topics for your blog. If you have a seasonal business or you are launching a new product, a calendar will help you plan blog posts, social media and other content in advance. An editorial calendar will also help you when you are working with a copywriter, by providing direction and upcoming deadlines.
Holidays and other special days to celebrate
You can use recognized holidays to find interesting topics for your blog. This is also true for restaurants and retail businesses. There are many other special days, like National Margarita Day, National Pancake Day or National Cheeseburger Day that can be interesting topics for your blog.
How To’s, Tutorials and Checklists
Believe it or not, blog posts that show your customer how to do something are very popular. Teach them something about ways to use your product or service.
