According to Wikipedia, “an elevator pitch or elevator speech is an overview of a product, service, person, group or organization, or project and is often a part of a fundraising, marketing communications, brand, or public relations program.”
Today is Day 1 of the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge on SITS Girls community. Our task today is to “Create An Elevator Pitch”. This is the perfect lesson for someone like me, who has recently started a business. Go to any networking event and the first line will most likely be: ” So, what do you do?” That is an easy question if you are a doctor, lawyer or football player. It gets a bit more complicated when you are a freelance writer.
My Elevator Pitch
I am a freelance writer who uses my 12-plus years experience as a Corporate Concierge to write content for websites and blogs. My company, Clarabela Media is an online communication company assisting small businesses in the hospitality industry and the performing arts by writing compelling content for their websites, as well as setting up and maintaining their social media profiles.
The short version of my elevator pitch is also my tagline: “New Adventures in Freelancing, Social Media and Online Communications”
Lesson Learned
Developing an elevator pitch for your company is a good way to hone your business concept into a clear and concise description. While brain-storming about the various aspects of your business and the services you provide, you can come up with ideas for your website’s tagline, about page and even your business cards.
